Development of Liquid Crystalline Polyester Composite as Recyclable High Strength Material.

The preparation of recyclable, high strength polymer composites reinforced with liquid crystalline polyester required the use of a twin screw extruder. The liquid crystalline polyester formed dispersed microfibrils that reinforced the matrix polymers with unique liquid crystalling polyester content. A liquid crystalline polyester and polypropylene composite retained its strength after recycling ten times. Films molded from this composite had a tensile strength of 252 gigapascals in the direction of the microfibrils. 10 refs.
