A variety of fabrics, requiring a number of different finishing techniques, are used in automotive interiors. Polyester and nylon are used frequently to make automotive fabrics. Types of automotive fabrics include flat woven (dobby and jacquard), woven velvet, high pile, double and single jersey weft knit, warp knit, and raschel fabrics. Dyeing and finishing techniques range from scouring and setting to complicated, multiprocess procedures. After conventional dyeing and finishing, most automotive fabrics are backcoated for stability and/or laminated to a polyurethane foam with or without a backing.
