Anodic arc evaportion is a vacuum deposition technology that is used for coating flexible textiles. Compared with thermal evaporation and sputtering, anodic arc evaporatin has such advantages as low cost, the production of coated substrates with superior layer properties, and the capability to use coatings (silver, copper, titanium, tantalum, chromium, and nickel) other than aluminum. An improtant feature of this technology is its ability to ionize evaporated metal atoms, which achieve excellent adhesion because of their high kinetic energy. Critical layer properties are the crystallographic structure, compactness, electrical resistivity, and adhesion. Major applications for these coated substrates are solar reflective layers for roller blinds, conductive layers for electromagnetic shielding, and catalytic layers for process engineering.
