Effect of Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Oligomers on the Mechanical Properties of PEEK/Thermotropic Liquid Crystal Copolyestr Blends.

An expriment investigated the effect of PEEK ologomers on the mechanicla properties of PEEK/thermotropic liquid crystal copolyester blends. Results showed that the addition of PEEK oligomers improved the tensile strength, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of the blends. ESCA spectra of 64:16:20 PEED/PEED oligomer/thermotropic liquid crystal copolyester blends (obtained during cooling from the molten state) exhibited significant reduction in carbonyl group absorption at the characteristic binding energy of 535 electron volts. Researchers attributed the improvement in mechanical properties otot eh formation of crosslinked polyester chains, which increased compatibility during the blending process. 9 refs.
