This article reports on a method of producing nonwoven dressings from alginate fibres which gives added absorbency and good integrity, claim its producers, Brit Cair Ltd of the UK. The method means that a nonwoven fabric of alginate fibres can be prepared which has the integrity necessary to ensure the easy handling of the dressing when a wound is exuding heavily. This arises from an open-textured structure which is said to result in a greatly increased capillarity, permitting more rapid access of wound exudate.
