A process for preparing a stain-resistant, multicoloured, cationic-dyeable nylon carpet comprises: space dyeing a yarn of cationic-dyeable nylon carpet comprises: space dyeing a yarn of cationic-dyeable nylon fibres to intermittently due the yarn different colours along its length; heat-setting the yarn for a time sufficient to impart dye-and stain-resistance to it, tufting this heat-set yarn and an undyed, cationic-dyeable nylon yarn into a carpet; and dyeing the carpet to dye only the undyed yarn and not the space-dyed, heat-set yarn.
