Development of Knitted Filter Bags for Industrial Dust Filtration Applications.

NITRA has developed a weft knit seamless dust filter bag for industrial applications. Researchers modified a conventional circular knitting machine with an inlay feeder (designed to permit changes in position and angle of feed), a plating feeder, and a yarn tension control that would control tension fluctuation without imparting additional yarn tension. Four different types of knitting yarns with low stretch, high bulk, and moderately high tenacity were knit into 15 different types of filter bags and analyzed to determine their physical, mechanical, and filtration properties. Results indicated that the seamless tube bags were stronger than those made from flat fabrics, required less fabrication, and could be produced for more than 40 percent less than commercially available nonwoven filter bags.
