Dozens of apparel manufacturers make apparel items using recycled materials from plastic bottles. Such companies as Patagonia and Moving Comfort use the recycled materials to manufacture fleece outerwear. The materials are also used to manufacture carpet, pillow stuffing, sleeping bag filler, blanket, and furniture upholstery. Approximately two-thirds of the 9 billion plastic bottles produced annually in the United States end up in landfills or at incineration facilities. The majority of the remaining bottles are shipped to Wellman Incorporated of Bridgeport, New Jersey, the largest plastics recyling company in the world. The company acquires approximately 150 million used 1 liter plastic bottles each month from local recycling companies throughout the United States. Other major plastics recycling companies in the United States include Marin Color-Fi, Image Industries, and Johnson Controls.
