Ricem MC Fibers Offer Improved Cement Finish

Italian fiber producer Montefibre developed Ricem MC, a high modulus acrylic fiber that is designed to reinforce such cements as plaster, mortar, and concrete. Because of Ricem MC's peculiar surface character and the interaction of the -CN groups of the polymer with the -OH groups of the hydrated silicates, the fibers adhere well in the matrix. Tests demonstrated that Ricem MC fibers are unaffected by the alkalinity of the cement, are equally resistant to acids, and offer a quality finish. Ricem MC fibers used as reinforcement can yield improved product durability, higher impact resistance of the end product. The fibers can be added to the dry aggregate before adding water or added as the final ingredient when using a cement mixer. The extreme fineness of the fibers allows them to be incorporated into plasters and applied in very thin layers.
