Fast Cure Reactive Hot Melt Adhesives Maintain Melt Stability

Researchers studied ways to increase the curing rate of reactive hot melt (RHM) adhesives. High cure rates and good melt stability are contrary properties in RHM adhesives. A proprietary catalyst added to the adhesive achieved both these properties. Test samples were prepared with particle board and metal sheet, glued with different adhesive formulations, and then tested for lap shear strength and melt stability. The adhesive with the proprietary catalyst performed significantly better in all tests. Additional tests showed that the proprietary catalyst also provided more reliable curing across widespread humidity conditions.
