Vetrotex claims that the addition of as little as 1 percent glass fiber can overcome the problem of cracking in concrete. The glass fibers work to maintain the concrete's plasticity. Limit segregation, and stop the propagation of cracks. The use of concrete with glass fibers in all concrete applications, including underground pipes and sprayed tunnel linigs, eliminates the need for steel reinforcement. It is difficult, however, to combine glass fibers with such an alkaline matrix as concrete. This has been resolved by the development of special types of glass fiber. The maximum glass fiber reinforcement is 6 percent; however, lower percentages may be used in traditional types of concrete.
