It is estimated that over three billion pounds of post-consumer carpet waste enter landifills in the United States each year. Methods of component separation, chemical approaches to separation, melt processing techniques and the formation of composite products from the recovered waste are described. A process for producing energy from carpet waste is also presented briefly.
