High tenacity polyethylene for composites

A high tenacity polyethylene fibre which absorbs vibrations well at low temperatures has been developed by Toyo Boseki KK. The new product has a high impact resistance suggesting its use as a reinforcement in composites designed for low temperature applications, 200 degrees C or below. The company suggests that the fibre could be used as a reinforcement for motorcycle helments, for instance, as well as providing ballistic protection from small shrapnel and bullets.
