A Japanese patent describes a process for the manufacture of sorbitol derivatives that involves efficient and low cost drying and grinding, controlling bulk density and particle size. The sorbitol derivatives have excellent dispersibility and fusibility in polyolefin resins and act as nucleating agents to improve transparency and odor. These resins have application in the manufacture of such food containers as food packages, refrigeration containers, and trays, as well as such medical devices as syringes, tubes, and fluid trnasporting container cylinders. A major advantage of this process is the effective removal of unreacted aldehyde, which significantly decreases odor in the resins.
