cellulose nitrates (n) are practically important polymers which combine valuable operating qualities with comparatively simple fabrication technology and wide availability of the raw material the structural changes which take place in cellulose during nitration were investigated by ir spectroscopy combined with mathematical processing of the experimental data. samples of cn with different concentration of nitrogen based on cotton (in the form of fibers) and wood (in the form of chopped paper) cellulose were investigated. nitration was conducted in a solution of 100 percent hno/sub 3/ and ch/sub 2/cl/sub 2/. the degree of esterification ( gamma ) was determined on a hewlett packard c, h, n analyzer. the ir spectra of cotton (a) and wood (b) cellulose and cn based on them in the region of hydroxyl group stretching vibrations are shown.
