pregnancy-induced hypertension is a common disease with potential for significant multiorgan involvement. the dramatic cardiovascular changes of normal pregnancy are markedly altered by the development of pregnancy-induced hypertension. the ability to recognize and manage these changes often effects profoundly both maternal and fetal outcome. intravascular volume replacement, analgesia-anesthesia, magnesium sulfate, and the many available antihypertensive agents are useful tools for crisis management of severe hypertension. further advances in this field will rely on the discovery and treatment of the inciting factor of this disease process
