a broadly and easily tunable single mode pulsed laser emission has been obtained in the visible range ( lambda approximately=730 nm) using an injection like laser system. after amplifying, doubling and tripling in a kr cell, vuv radiation near lyman alpha was produced. high resolution stark spectroscopy of atomic hydrogen 1/sup 2/s/sub (1/2)/ to 2/sup 2/p transition was performed
