for two days in february, some 100 individuals, representing both government and industry, met to discuss the need for and application of standards for cd-rom interoperability. the symposium was presented by afcea international (the armed forces communications and electronics association) and sponsored by the information handling committee of the director of central intelligence. the author discusses two proposals for facilitating information interchange. the intelligence community proposed cd-rdx, while the air transportation association favored sfql (structured full-text query language). also he refers to four other initiatives' dxs from silverplatter, ansi z39.50, the rock ridge protocols, and the proposals from the frankfurt group
