in technological applications and construction of optical instruments for laser radiation, it is necessary to determine the reflectivity of the surfaces of the used materials. the authors describe experimental investigation of the reflectivity properties of the 10.6 mu m co/sub 2/ laser and 0.633 mu m he-ne laser on a number of turned, ground and polished surfaces such as alloy steel, duralumin, brass and copper. the results indicate that the reflectivity of unpolished metals is sufficiently low in order to be cut or welded by laser beam without further treatment. when one wants to fabricate reflection surfaces for manipulation of long wave laser beams, the surfaces have to be treated in order to achieve an average value of the surface relief below 0.2 mu m
