new results are reported of the fabrication and investigation of waveguides on zns and cds substrates. a technique is described for producing waveguides by high-temperature diffusion in selenium vapours, yielding waveguides with attenuation of about 10 db/cm. new data are also given of measuring the depth and attenuation in diffusion waveguides on zns and cds substrates. it is shown that by applying special treatment of the waveguide surfaces, the attenuation can be reduced to 3db/cm
