the greatest single source of contamination in the clean room is the operator. 100000 contaminating particles/minute of 0.3 microns can be emitted from a person at rest: this increases to approximately 1000000 particles/minute with average movement. it is esential for operators to wear an impermeable garment which is discarded and cleaned after each use in the clean area. conventional laundering techniques, although appearing to produce a clean garment, may cause higher contamination than not cleaning the garment at all. drycleaning techniques with 'arklone' (fluorocarbon 113) have been modified for use in the laundering of clean room garments, and produce a lower residual particle figure than with water-based laundry techniques. the low boiling point of the solvent allows each wash and rinse to be carried out in freshly distilled fluid with a distillation and recovery cleaner. the process in general will not take more than 30 min from dry to dry
