an attempt was made to apply ai techniques in creating art patterns for printing on silk, cotton and other printed matters. the computer aided creation of art patterns system which can swiftly deliver various nice art patterns has been implemented on a microcomputer. this system consists of two subsystems in cascade the first subsystem is a pattern construction system which plans an art pattern and completes its construction in casual colours. it has a knowledge base, pattern element base, reservoir of selected pattern works, pattern automatic generating program, learning program, filling program and frame side piecing up program etc. the second subsystem is a colour harmony system. it changes the colours of a created pattern in harmony and gets patterns with different features of colours and in various styles
