this method can be used to measure the frequency of a single mode tunable dye laser with an accuracy of a few mhz. the apparatus does not include any moving parts, it gives a direct visualisation of the wavenumber and is able to work as well in a cw as in a pulsed laser regime. on the other hand, it can be used, as a reference, to servocontrol and pilot the frequency of the dye laser: with an appropriate electronic system, it is able to scan the laser frequency step by step
