With the ongoing search for cheaper raw materials and increased awareness of environmental issues, the use of natural fibres for technical applications could enjoy considerable growth. The properties and suitability for technical uses of cotton, coir, jute, flax, ramie, hemp, leaf (such as pineapple, sisal and banana) and wool fibres and spider silk are described.
