with today's new microfiber technology, filaments can be spun in deniers far finer than silk. polyester microfibers can be used to create fashionable women's outerwear fabrics with a new hand and smooth drape, sportswear fabrics with improved moisture transport or tightly woven fabrics for waterproof garments. fiber blends, mechanical surface treatments and special finishes afford wide scope for innovation. microfibers can be a challenge for the textile dyer and finisher, however, in producing upgraded, sophisticated fabrics the finishing sequence has to be adapted to the fineness of the filaments and the increased fiber surface for specific end-uses. the differences in dyeing behavior between various types of fiber are discussed and tips are given for various dyeing and finishing routines.
