Filati Filartex SpA manufactures cotton and cotton blend yarns for knit apparel, woven fabrics, hosiery, home furnishings, and accessories. In 1995, it manufactured over 9 million kilograms of single and twisted yarns in raw, dyed, melange, slub, and stretch versions. Since its founding in 1958, the Italian company has been organized into medium size independent production units that specialize in a range of products. An extensive network of national agents in Italy allowed Filati Filartex to create a niche among Italian spinning mills, most of whom focused on mass production for the domestic market. Filati Filartex eventually increased production by introducing time scheduling based on intensive plant use and building new manufacturing plants. The company subsequently established a network of international agents and now exports 40 percent of its global turnover.
