What Is the Ministry of Environment’s “Self-Management Support Program for Children’s Products”?
It is a program that helps businesses in the children’s products sector reduce the use of hazardous substances and manage environmental risk factors on their own. The program provides support through consulting on hazardous substance management and testing/analysis services.
※ Legal Basis: Article 24-3 of the Environmental Health Act (Formulation of Self-Management Plans)
A relevant business entity may make and implement a self-management plan, as prescribed by Ordinance of the Ministry of Environment, in order to discourage the use and sale of environmentally hazardous factors for children.
The Minister of Environment may partially subsidize a business entity who makes and implements a self-management plan under paragraph (1), within budgetary limits.
Support Program Background
Under Article 24 of the Environmental Health Act (Control of Hazardous Substances for Use by Children), businesses involved in children’s products are required to manage environmental risk factors and indicate whether such substances are contained in their products. However, due to a lack of information and resources, it is difficult for them to establish voluntary management systems and develop reduction measures.
Environmentally Hazardous Factor Labeling
Implementing Entities: Manufacturers and importers of children’s products
Requirements: Manufacturers and importers must indicate on the product or its packaging whether it contains any restricted environmental hazards in children’s products, as well as the content level if present.
