After decades of research and technological advancements, the United States is able to produce quality luxurius knit fabrics that were once only obtainable by Italian mills. This breakthrough has been achieved because of the breeding of Supima cotton, a variety grown only in the western and southwestern United States. Supima has a superior, extra long staple with extraordinary strength and fineness. Dixie Yarns, SCT Yarns, Cross Creek Apparel, Giorgio Armani Calze, Resources in Sync, Innovative Concepts Associates, and Mondor are offering new, higher quality yarns spun and plied from Supima cotton. Supima knit fabrics have a high affinity for dyes, and can be discharge or screen printed. The Skupima trademark is owned by the Supima Association of America, which represents 2,000 growers in Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Texas, and which limits the use of the trademark to qualifying manufacturers.
