Following a model introduced in 1954 to classify wool fabrics, a study, first presented in 1991 at the Manchester seminar on Practical Developments in Objective Measurements for Textile and Clothing, outlines a method for decimal characterization of quality in textile products. The study establishes codified decimal designations for varius textile parameters, which permit the characterization of yarns, fabrics, and industrial textiles. Fabric properties considered are weight, thickness, flexural rigidify, friction obique traction, and pilling. Examples of the resulting quality table are given. 31 refs.
