Bonas' Freestyle-X CAD/CAM system, which was introduced at OTEMAS 1993, has applications in the design of a wide range of jacquard fabrics, including those used in home furnishings, apparel, and automobiles. Its major improvement compared with its predecessor is the addition of a UNIX X-Windows graphics interface to enhance user friendliness. Central to the system is a powerful 486 PC with UNIX software, resulting in a multitasking environment of the designer. Several strategies exist for the input of designs, including the scanning of fabric samples or photographs. When the design is finished, the system outputs via any jacquard format, including both mechanical and electronic formats. Bonas has also introduced a PC Edit system, which allows design changes independent of the Freestyle-X.
