Two curve combination methods were used to desing conjugate cams intended for loom beatup mechanisms. The first method considered the total displacement of the sley to be equality divided by two durves and the connection point to be in the center of each curve. The second method improved the smoothness of the connection point, which imprioved the smoothness of the connection point, which ameliorated mechanical problems and reduced vibrations. The first method resulted in a slightly smaller pressure angle, but a large discontinuity at the joining poing of the sine and cosine curves. The second method resulted in a continuous jerk curve at the joining point, which is considered beneficial for high speed mechanisms.
