Although recycling of fiber and fabric waste during production is not as common as in Europe and North America, the potential in Asia is vast. Appropriate waste materials can be collected during synthetic and natural yarn production, weaving, knitting, apparel manufacturing, nonwoven fabric production, and carpet production. Mills for spinning recycled fibers can use Fehrer's DREF-2 or Suessen's Parafil spinning systems. Machinery suitable for opening blowroom waste and for opening and tearing waste fabrics is readily available. The development of this recycling potential is an appropriate project for the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations, or foreign aid organizations.
