The mechanical properties, of apparel fabric influence both the making-up of a garment and how that garment responds to the application of different forces during use. An investigation into mechanical and physical properties of light weight woolen fabric as indicators of its tailorability illustrates the relative value of the Kawabata Evaluation System (KES-F) and Fabric Assurance by Simple Testing (FAST) for evaluating fabric performance characteristics. Although FAST measures only the resistance of fabric to deformation and not the recovery of fabric from deformation, it is simpler, less expensive, and sturdier than the KES-F system, and therefore is more suitable for the industrial environment. 13 trfs.
