The major focus of these companies was to ensure that machine design and operations were in compliance with European Union safety standards for operators. Compliance frequently involved fitting machines and equipment with advanced electronic and computer systems to monitor line functions. Narrow fabric production machines tended to be significantly lighter in weight and have a wider range of flexibility in their applications than their predecessors. Some companies introduced new narrow fabric production machines specifically for the manufacture of industrial fabrics.
