Shuttleless weaving has brought new life to the fabric forming industry since 1945. Sulzer Brothers created the first commercially sucessful shuttleless loom in 1950. The Czechoslovakians invented water jet and air jet shuttleless weaving systems in the 1950s. Springs Mills and Cone Mills purchased air jet looms on a large scale in the late 1970s, marking the beginning of commercial use for the new technology. The introduction of water jet weaving systems occurred in the mid-1960s, and mill installation of these systems began shortly thereafter. At ITMA 1995, Sulzer Ruti introduced the M8300 multiphase loom. The machine uses the multilinear shed concept, and has a filling insertion rate of 5,000 meters per munute.
