Researchers evaluated the beatup force on the Muller CKM 1/20 needle loom using a load washer, strain gages, and tension meters. The investigation evaluated the influence of warp tension, pick spacing, linear density of the filling yarn, and shed timing on the beatup force. A piezoelectric load washer installed on the loom connected to a data the accuracy of the load washer. Results indicated that beatup force gradually increased as the reed proceeded, with the force reaching a maximum value at beatup and dropping to zero as the reed proceeded. Pick spacing and filling yarn linear density showed the greatest effect on the beatup force. Beatup force did not change significantly when loom speed varied from 243 to 274 rotations per minute. Theoretical results compared well to beatup forces measured using the load washer, but not as well to those measured using the strain gage. 14 refs.
