Woven narrow fabrics vary in width from 0.25-12 inches and include a range of fabrics from light weight ribbons to heavier tapes and webbing. Some of the webbings can withstand 20,000 pounds of tension per inch in width. Narrow fabric applications include military gear, automobile and aviation seat belts, conveyor belts, and parachutes. The United States narrow fabric industry comprises more than 290 narrow fabric plants. Diagrams illustrate the design and use of needle looms, including terms and definitions, start up instructions, maintenance requirements, and the settings required for such components as the reed and pick drive, pivot angle, weft neelds, stitching drive, knitting needle drive, stroke, torsion bar, counterpressure, binder thread inserter, and weft breaking device.
