Hitco's multilayer woven fabric has multiple yarn layers runing between the broad surfaces of the fabric and a secondary yarn system running through the thickness of the fabric. The matrial, which is described in European patent 0 422 293, can be woven on conventional looms, such as a jacquard loom with flying shuttle. The fabric differs from other multilayer structures. Its warp yarns run along the length of the fabric in a virtual straight path, thereby contributing maximum strength in the warp direction. The weft yarns undulate over and under the warp yarns. The warp is divided into different layers, which are separated from each other, but parallel, and are contained within the two faces of the fabric. The weft yarns pass repeatedly through the material, from face to in a zig-zag pattern, thereby forming acute angles with the generally straight warp yarns.
