The effect of noil extraction level during combing on the structural properties of cotton yarns and single jersey cotton fabrics was evaluated. Moroccan Pima cotton was processed through blow-room, card, drawframe and super lap former. Sliver laps were combed to three levels of comber noil extraction: 10, 14, and 18 percent. 40s yarn was produced from the respective combed slivers of various noil extraction. Fabrics were knit on a Cheminit single jersey machines. Stitch density/Ks-parameter increased with increased noil extraction up to a level of 14 percent. Yarn properties were optimized at this nil extraction percentage, but the appearance of gray fabric continued to improve with increased noil extraction. 8 refs.
