TechnoLines developed two computer programs that drive carbon dioxide lasers to create individualized designs or impart sandblasted or abraded effects. TechnoEtch creates designs in a unit application on apparel, fabrics, or leather. Its capabilities include sculpting such fabrics as polar fleece. TechnoBlast could replace conventional sandblasting techniques. Initial start up costs for the equipment and licensing are approximately $130,000. Images for the programs can be entered by designers or scanned from photographs. The laser changes the fabric substrate's surface chemistry to produce text, patterns, fading, and graphic or gray scale images. The process consists of a dye removal rather than a color implementation process. TechnoLines is also developing its TechnoCode coding system in which a scanner will read information written directly on fabric or leather by a laser.
