High Flexible Weaving (HFW) increases productivity of the entire textile chain by reducing bottlenecks due to large lot sizes. Long throughput times are responsible for 27 percent of the total retail cost. HFW can prevent problems created by long throughput times such as retailers being forced to mark down articles and over stocked inventories along the entire textile chain. A HFW plant manufactures small lot sizes of 1-5 meters of fabric and completes cutting on site. The technology is currently available for sewing, cutting, and dyeing small batches, leaving only the need for weaving technology to be developed for the manufacture of small lot sizes. The first prototypes are expected in 1998 and will be displayed at ITMA in 1999.
