the purpose of this program is to develop ultrasoft composite materials to be used as fillers in the fabrication of maxillofacial prostheses. the projected systems are elastomeric-shelled, liquid-filled microcapsules. improvements were made in the interfacial polymerization process, providing sealed capsules which do not inhibit the cure of matrix materials, and which do not harden with time. further research is needed on larger-scale processing, on making smaller capsules, and on the mechanical properties of the capsules in matrices.
