Selvages have an effect on the appearance and quality of woven fabrics as well as on the efficiency of the loom and ease of fabric handling during subsequent processing stages. Three types of selvage structures can be used: leno, tucked yarn, and welded. The leno selvage is the most frequently used of the three types of selvages. The tucked yarn selvage offers an appearance that is similar to that of conventional woven fabrics. The welded selvage should be used with certain types of yarns. Lindauer Dornier's Disc-O-Leno system does not slow down the loom speed and avoids yarn breaks. Dornier's Ecoleno, an evolution of the Disc-O-Leno, offers added advantages.
