Looms can be partially encapsulated to decrease noise; however, it is critical that the capsule does not interfere either with the operator or loom performance. The control of dust, temperature, and humidity is requisite. As a result of tests in a weaving mill, an optimal capsule design evolved. Although costs have proven to be prohibitive, partly because each type and make of loom requires a differently designed capsule, the advantages accrued in encapsulation warrant exploration in redesigning looms that will ultimately integrate a capsule in the frame. 4 refs.
