A review of denim fabric manufacturing and processing methods discusses dyeing methods, finishing and washing techniques, and fabrics manufactured from blended yarns. Dyeing methods include rapid dyeing and vat dyeing using indanthrene dyes; reactive dyes; sulfur dyes; retro dyeing using enzymes instead of large volumes of alkali, hydrogen peroxide, detergents, and surfactants; Quickstone denim; and pigment dyeing. Combined dyeing and finishing processes include reverse denim, simulated yarn dyed denim, pseudo denim, and nonuniform dyeing. Finishing and washing techniques include stone washing, acid washing, stoneless stone washing, hydropatterning, ozone fading, laser fading, and sand blasting. Denim fabrics manufactured from blended yarns include Soda Pop denim fleece fabric manufactured from recycled plastic soda bottles, Sierra denim containing a polyolefin filling, Reused Denim manufactured from reclaimed denim scrap and virgin cotton or Tencel, and soft jeanswear manufactured from blends of cotton and rayon, Tencel, polynosic, or polyester. 44 refs.
