Current flat bed knitting technology permits knit fabric structure variations that were previously unavailable. A number of parameters can be adjusted to permit these structures, such as knitting density, which can be varied for part or all of the knit fabric; matching material strength and knitting structure stability; using compression shrinkable materials with thermal adjustment; and stitching variations, such as float stitching. Knitting variations can be categorized into the following groups: alternating between R/R and R/L rows; alternating between R/R rows and R/R float stitches; assemblies of R/L or R/R with float stitch components; insertion of pick and pick, which is less common today; and special features, such as the tightening of the knit fabric structure through racking.
