Researchers at the Bombay Textile Research Association used scanning electron microscopy to examine samples of the following defects in knit fabrics: dark green streaks in weft knit fabric, hazy appearance of weft knit cotton fabric, perforations and holes in weft knit jersey, dark olive green narrow bands in the course direction of weft knit acrylic fabric, dark blue translucent patches on knit cotton fabric dyed blue, narrow dark streaks in knit pile fabric, narrow dark streaks at regular intervals in the course direction of weft knit fabric, narrow irregular light blue bars on the face side of the knit pile raised fabric, and peeling of tuft fibers from the base of fur fabric. Researchers concluded that regular monitoring of raw material quality and specifications, effective process controls, and preventive machine maintenance are necessary for minimizing the incidence of fabric defects.
