Safety Components Fabric Technologies Inc. says that it uses a rapier loom to weave fabrics suitable for conversion into sidemounted airbags. The company from Greenville, South Carolina, says that the loom uses between six and ten harnesses, and operates at tension on each warp end of 70-90 g. Generally, unsized filament polyester warps will be used; this lends a softer hand to the finished fabric. Nylon can also be woven in the same way. Sizing is not needed if the fabric is woven on a water-jet loom; the chilled water acts as a lubricant and compensates for the lack of size.
