An overview of woven fabric design and structures addresses methods of fabric design presentation, including symbolic, verbal, diagrammatic, and graphic; differences between warp and filling yarns; basic weaving motions; loom controls; such terminology as warp density, selvage, dent, heddle, fell, and weft density; how the order of entering and lifting relate to the order of interlacing; types of looms; illustrating a reed plan; proper numbering of ends, harness, and picks; and guidelines for determining warp direction and the face and back of a fabric. Diagrams illustrate loom setups for basket weaves, conventional twills, satin weaves, and warp ribs.
