A method for winding yarn onto a rotating bobbin comprises restoring the broken yarn feed by raising the rotating bobbin from the drive roller when the yarn feed is broken and braking the rotating bobbin and the drive roller independently until the bobbin stops rotating, and joining the broken yarn. A variable time delay, determined by the amount of yarn wound on the bobbin, is interposed between the commencement of bobbin braking and the commencement of yarn joining. IPC B65H.
